CM to decide soon on 1% quota for nomadic communities

Bengaluru

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that a decision will soon be made after consultations with the Law Department and legal experts regarding the demand for 1% internal reservation for the nomadic community.

He chaired a meeting with representatives of various nomadic community unions at Vidhana Soudha on Friday to address ongoing confusion surrounding internal reservation. Speaking after the meeting, the Chief Minister said, “We have discussed the demands of the nomadic alliance. They have requested that the 1% reservation recommended by the Nagamohan Das Commission be implemented, and also sought the establishment of a separate development corporation and a financial package for the community. We are committed to social justice and will consult the Law Department and legal experts before taking a decision. A development corporation will be set up, and a financial package will be provided. We have sought some time to implement these measures and requested the union to withdraw its court case.”

Union President Sheshappa reiterated the community’s demand for implementing the 1% quota as per the Nagamohan Das report and thanked the government for responding positively. He said the Chief Minister had agreed to examine the legal feasibility of granting the quota, form a separate corporation, and consider a special economic package, urging the government to act swiftly.

However, the meeting also saw tense moments when some members of the nomadic community protested outside Vidhana Soudha, alleging that they were denied entry. The protestors raised slogans against the government, expressing anger over their exclusion from the discussions.
