KSRTC has announced comprehensive safety measures and training protocols to prevent fire accidents and ensure passenger safety across its bus fleet.

The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has issued a detailed set of safety guidelines to prevent and manage fire accidents in its fleet of buses. The move comes in the wake of the tragic Kurnool bus fire accident and growing concerns about passenger safety in public transport vehicles.
The corporation has directed all divisions to conduct regular training programs for drivers and staff on the use of fire extinguishers and fire safety systems such as FDSS (Fire Detection & Suppression System), FAPS (Fire Alarm & Protection System), and FDAS (Fire Detection & Alarm System). Drivers will also be trained to operate emergency and panic buttons, while all buses must be equipped with functioning extinguishers, window hammers, and battery cut-off switches.
Daily inspections of electrical wiring and emergency exits have been mandated. Staff have been strictly prohibited from lighting mosquito coils inside buses and from allowing the transport of inflammable materials.
Workshops in coordination with the Fire and Police Departments will be held regularly at depots, and safety messages will be broadcast at bus stations via audio announcements. The corporation will print fire safety instructions on tickets and include fire prevention training in official staff courses.
All divisional heads must submit compliance reports by November 10, 2025, while technical officers from the head office will conduct surprise checks to ensure full implementation of safety measures.
