Housing, Waqf and Minority Welfare Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan announced that the Karnataka government aims to provide 2.36 lakh houses to the homeless by 2026, ensuring permanent shelter for thousands of poor families across the state.
Speaking after inaugurating the title deed distribution programme for housing beneficiaries at the Shadi Mahal in Bagepalli, the minister said that a Morarji Desai Residential School will soon be constructed at Paragodu village in Bagepalli taluk at a cost of ₹30 crore. Of this, ₹16 crore has already been released in the first phase, and ₹14 crore will be sanctioned in the second phase. He assured that the project would be completed with high-quality construction standards.
Highlighting the government’s housing drive, Zameer Ahmed said the previous year’s budget allocated ₹500 crore to build 36,789 houses, and by 2026, 2.36 lakh homes will be distributed to the homeless. He added that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah envisions constructing a total of 4 lakh houses across the state, with the goal of completing one lakh houses every year.
In Bagepalli constituency alone, 554 beneficiaries received title deeds on Wednesday, while another 1,459 will be distributed within 15 days. Additionally, 5,000 new houses will be built in the region over the next two years.
District in-charge Minister Dr. M.C. Sudhakar urged priority for providing homes to urban poor and announced that the Babajan and Ammajan Dargahs in Chintamani taluk’s Murugamalla will soon undergo a ₹32-crore development project. He added that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate development works worth ₹1,700 crore in Shidlaghatta on November 24.
Senior officials, MLAs, and local representatives were present during the event.
