The Karnataka State Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rainfall across several districts over the next two days. A yellow alert has been declared for 20 districts, with coastal areas expected to receive particularly heavy rain, while southern interior districts, including the capital Bengaluru, are likely to experience moderate showers.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea due to anticipated adverse weather. In coastal districts like Udupi and Dakshina Kannada, heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms are forecasted, whereas Uttara Kannada may receive moderate rainfall. Southern interior districts such as Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, and Kodagu are also expected to witness heavy rains with lightning.
Bengaluru city and surrounding regions, including Ballari, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapur, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Kolar, Mandya, Mysuru, Ramanagara, Tumakuru, and Vijayanagara, are likely to experience moderate rainfall with occasional thunderstorms. Northern interior districts such as Dharwad, Gadag, and Haveri may also see thunderstorms in some areas, while Bagalkote, Belagavi, Bidar, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayapura, and Yadgir may experience light rain or cloudy conditions.
The IMD noted that although the southwest monsoon officially ended on September 30, rainfall this year has been 8% above average. October is expected to continue with higher-than-normal rainfall, accompanied by cooler temperatures and humid conditions in several regions. Meteorological Director Mrityunjay Mohapatra stated that the long-period average for October (75.4 mm) could be exceeded by 115%, indicating a wetter and slightly cooler month across the country.
Residents and travelers are advised to stay alert, monitor weather updates, and exercise caution during this period of heavy rainfall.
