Tumakuru
The city of Tumakuru is set to host a seven-day state-level Olympics from January 15, 2026 at the Mahatma Gandhi Indoor Stadium, announced Home and District In-Charge Minister Dr. G. Parameshwar. The event will feature around 27 sports, including athletics, tennis, kabaddi, and swimming, with an expected participation of approximately 4,600 teams from across Karnataka.
Speaking at the state-level “Honalu-Belaku” kabaddi tournament organized jointly by the district administration, Zilla Panchayat, and the Department of Public Education, Dr. Parameshwar distributed prizes to winning teams and praised the district for its successful hosting of previous events. He emphasized Tumakuru’s reputation in sports and commended the administration for efficiently handling responsibilities as a cohesive team.
Dr. Parameshwar also highlighted the importance of participation over victory in sports, encouraging teams from Chikkodi and Vijayapura, who lost in the final, to take pride in their performance. Sixty-two teams from various districts participated in the kabaddi tournament, showcasing excellent skills, and were all congratulated by the minister.
Officials, including Deputy Director of Public Education Dr. Balgurumurthy, lauded the seamless arrangements for accommodation and food, with support from local colleges. Prizes were awarded to the winners of the men’s and women’s kabaddi categories from Dakshina Kannada.
The minister expressed hope that teams representing the district at the national-level kabaddi tournament in December, including Alvas and Dharmasthala teams, would deliver strong performances to bring further glory to the state. District officials and dignitaries present at the ceremony included DC Shubhakalyaan, ZP CEO G. Prabhu, DCP K.V. Ashok, and other members of the District Kabaddi Association.
