Karnataka approves ₹100 crore for a 200-bed modern hospital in Molakalmuru, with new specialists and upgraded facilities planned for taluk hospitals across the state.

Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao announced that the government has approved the construction of a 200-bed modern hospital in Molakalmuru town, with a sanctioned grant of ₹100 crore. Speaking to the media after inspecting the existing taluk hospital on Friday, he said discussions with local representatives will determine whether the new facility should be built within the existing hospital premises or on a five-acre site identified on the outskirts of the town.
The proposal for a well-equipped hospital in Molakalmuru was strongly supported by MLA N.Y. Gopalakrishna, and the government has responded positively by allocating the required funds. A detailed project report (DPR) will be prepared, covering medical equipment, residential quarters, and other infrastructure needs.
The minister also announced that, from next month, two specialists in obstetrics, pediatrics, and anesthesia will be appointed to every taluk hospital across the state to ensure round-the-clock medical services. Additional technicians will also be recruited to address operational challenges.
Gundu Rao noted that the current hospital lacks sufficient space and can only accommodate a 100-bed facility, leaving no room for future expansion. Hence, constructing the hospital on the town’s outskirts would be ideal, allowing space for both the main hospital and staff quarters.
He added that a final decision on the site will be taken next week after discussions in Bengaluru with the MLA and senior officials. An orthopedic surgeon has already been appointed to the taluk hospital, and a C-arm machine will arrive within three days.
The event was attended by MLA N.Y. Gopalakrishna, Dr. Yogesh Babu, R. Shivanna, D.N. Mailarappa, Tajpeer, and other officials.
