The exams will be held in December; classes have not been held in many colleges due to shortage of lecturers
Bengaluru
Classes have not even started in colleges under Bangalore University for BCA and BBA courses without appointing permanent and guest lecturers. Meanwhile, the issuance of the examination schedule and examination fee circular has created anxiety and confusion among students
There are 250 colleges under the Bangalore University, of these, approximately150 colleges offer BCA and 100 colleges offer BA. Classes have not been held in many colleges due to shortage of lecturers.
The 1st, 3rd and 5th semesters have started from August. But the Higher Education Department has been negligent in appointing lecturers. Due to this, students used to come to the college every day, study on their own and return. Now, the sudden announcement of exams has left the students confused.
Although the first week of October has ended, classes have not started. The exams will be held in December. Students, who are questioning how to prepare for the exams, have demanded that the exams be postponed.
There are no proper lecturers in the BBA and BCA departments every year. Every semester, students have to rely on guest lecturers. There is no trust that guest lecturers who teach for two months will be in the same college for the next semester. We have been relying on government degree colleges. They have demanded that permanent lecturers be appointed.
S Gopalraju First Grade College, the only degree college in the taluk, has been seeing a decline in enrollment year after year due to a shortage of lecturers. There were 21 students in BCA last year. This time the number of students has come down to 10. This situation is not limited to Gopalraju College alone. It is the same in all government degree colleges of the university.
Plea to resolve crunch of lecturers
A request will be made to the government to resolve the shortage of lecturers in government schools under the university jurisdiction. Examinations will be conducted without any inconvenience to students, said Dr Jayakar, chancellor of Bangalore University.
