The Family McMullen Trailer Has Officially Released

Warner Bros has finally released the trailer for The Family McMullen, the eagerly awaited sequel to Edward Burns’ indie hit The Brothers McMullen. The new film promises the same warmth, wit, and emotional complexity fans love.

Set decades after the original, The Family McMullen finds the family still navigating love, loss, and loyalty—but now with the next generation added to the mix. Edward Burns returns as Barry McMullen, now in his 50s, facing single parenthood and second chances. Michael McGlone reprises his role as brother Patrick, and Connie Britton appears as Molly, the widowed wife of the third brother, whose absence still looms large. New cast members Tracee Ellis Ross, Halston Sage, Juliana Canfield, Pico Alexander, and Brian d’Arcy James bring fresh energy and new romantic twists to the expanding family.

The trailer balances humor and heart while exploring themes of generational change, Irish American identity, and the complicated ties that bind families. Nostalgia meets growth as the McMullens, older and wiser, continue to navigate life’s uncertainties.

Written and directed by Edward Burns, this film carries forward the personal, ensemble-driven storytelling that made the original a Sundance favorite in 1995. For fans, it offers a deeper look at beloved characters. For newcomers, it’s a relatable drama-comedy about the messiness of love and family—no prior knowledge needed.

Mark your calendars: The Family McMullen hits theaters for a one-night-only release on October 15, 2025, before heading to VOD, where all great family dramas find their lasting home.
