Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday inaugurated the Sabar Dairy Plant at Industrial Model Township (IMT), built at a cost of Rs 325 crore. Emphasizing the dairy sector’s vital role in the rural economy, Shah highlighted its importance in strengthening farmers’ prosperity and providing nutrition. The plant is India’s largest facility for producing curd, buttermilk, and yoghurt, with a daily capacity of 150 metric tonnes of curd, 3 lakh litres of buttermilk, 10 lakh litres of yoghurt, and 10 metric tonnes of sweets.

Serving the National Capital Region and northern states, the facility houses advanced machinery and is expected to generate employment for around 1,000 people. The plant, managed by Gujarat-based Sabarkantha District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union (Sabar Dairy), plans to double its capacity by next year. Shah noted the plant’s significant impact on farmers across Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar, with increased income prospects.

During the event, Shah expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for creating the separate Ministry of Cooperation, which Shah oversees. He praised Haryana’s contribution to India’s paramilitary and armed forces and reflected on the spiritual significance of the region, referencing Lord Krishna and the Bhagavad Gita.

Following the inauguration, Shah will distribute tool kits to 2,200 artisans at the Khadi Karigar Mahotsav in Rohtak and hand over modern machinery and Rs 301 crore in margin money under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP). He will also inaugurate PMEGP units and the Khadi Gramodyog Bhavan, and address a public gathering.

Later, Shah will open a five-day exhibition in Kurukshetra showcasing new criminal laws and their impacts, and inaugurate development projects worth around Rs 825 crore in the city.
