In a first for the post-independence era, the Congress party will hold a meeting of its extended Working Committee (CWC) in Bihar today, aimed at finalising election strategies for the upcoming state assembly polls and intensifying its campaign against the BJP over alleged “vote chori.” The meeting, scheduled at Sadaqat Ashram, will include permanent and special invitees, party chief ministers, Pradesh Congress Committee presidents, and Congress Legislature Party leaders, with top leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi attending.
Sources said the CWC will pass key resolutions focused on Bihar’s campaign strategy, seat-sharing with Mahagathbandhan allies, and public messaging on “vote chori” and objections to the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The session follows Rahul Gandhi’s recent ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ and press conferences highlighting alleged electoral manipulation, which the Election Commission has termed “incorrect and baseless.”
AICC Bihar in-charge Krishna Allavaru described the meeting as part of a “second war of Independence” in the state, accusing the BJP-led Centre of unfair practices and alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was circumventing democratic processes. Bihar Congress president Rajesh Kumar called it a historic occasion, noting that Sadaqat Ashram, associated with Mahatma Gandhi, Rajendra Prasad, and Jawaharlal Nehru, will host the CWC for the first time in the state. The Bihar assembly elections are expected around November 2025.
