Residents protest over worsening Varthur Road condition

Varthur Road Protest

Hundreds of residents from several housing societies along Varthur Road came together on Saturday morning to form a peaceful human chain, urging authorities to repair the severely damaged stretch between Gunjur and Varthur Kodi. The protest was organized in front of Prestige Lakeside Habitat, with participants including children and senior citizens holding placards calling for safer roads. “The condition of this road is pathetic, with potholes everywhere. Daily commutes have become a nightmare,” said Swetha Rangaswamy, a member of the Individual Tax Payer’s Forum. Another resident, Ramesh Kumar, added, “It takes over 20 minutes to cover a stretch that should ideally take five. We risk accidents and health issues due to dust and poor road quality.”

Protesters made sure the demonstration remained peaceful, avoiding disruption to traffic while highlighting the urgency of the issue. “We just want the authorities to take note and repair this road before someone gets seriously hurt,” said Rekha Nair, a local resident. Commuters echoed similar frustrations, emphasizing that delays and vehicle damage have become a daily struggle. The united effort of societies along the route sent a clear message to the government: residents will continue to push for immediate action until the roads are made safe. Authorities have been urged to respond promptly and prioritize this two-kilometre stretch that affects thousands of daily commuters.
