A protest was held in Sagar under the leadership of the District Struggle Committee, demanding that Sagar be separated from Shivamogga district and made a separate district.
From Sagar Hotel Circle, Aithappa Circle, directly to Ambedkar Circle, BH Road, arriving at Ashoka Road, the activists protested by sitting on the road in front of the Municipal Corporation demanding that Sagar district should be formed.
The Taluk Bar Association had stopped the court proceedings in support of the protest. Later, a meeting was held at Gandhi Maidan to demand the district. In the meeting, Father Balu of Sagar Church, BJP leader TD Meghraj, Congress leader Kalase Chandrappa, writer KV Akshara, Tukaram, Maitri Patil, BR Jayant, Dr Rajanandani Kagodu and others expressed their views.
Speaking on the occasion, senior politician Kagodu Thimmappa said, “the struggle to make Sagar a district has begun. I do not know what decision has been made in our party. Therefore, you are all fighting, let your struggle be victorious.” The protesters present at the spot said that with your blessings, Sagar can become a separate district.
Sigandur Temple Trustee Dharmappa said, “the struggle to become a Sagar district is a good intention. Sagar has all the qualifications to become a district. It also has the population to become a district. We have all joined the struggle to become a district.”
