During a visit to Shidlaghatta taluk’s government hospital, anganwadi centers, and fair price shops, Food Commission Chairperson Dr. H. Krishna instructed education officials to ensure that midday meal programs strictly follow the government-prescribed menu. He also noted deficiencies such as lack of clean drinking water, absence of hot water, inadequate dining spaces, poor sanitation in toilets, and lack of libraries in hostels.
The Commission members observed discrepancies in food storage and distribution at several KFC outlets, with improper tracking of stock inflow and outflow. At the Tondabavi fair price shop in Gouribidanur, officials noted that the shop did not open on schedule and food storage and sales were poorly managed, prompting warnings to rectify these issues.
Dr. Krishna emphasized that all government services should reach the public effectively, as mandated under the National Food Security Act, 2013, to ensure no individual suffers from hunger. He announced that a meeting with department heads will be held on September 18 at the District Administration building to review the observations and issue further directives to resolve the issues.
State Food Commission members Lingaraj Kote, Sumanth Raj, Maruti M. Doddalinganna, A. Rohini Priya, K.S. Vijayalakshmi, Secretary Sujata D. Hosamani, Taluk Health Officer Dr. Venkatesh Murthy, Joint Director of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Nagraj Kelaginmane, and Deputy Director of Women & Child Development Venkatesh Reddy were present during the inspection.
