Building an organization is easier said than done, and sustaining it requires patience and collective effort, said City Municipal Council President K. Sheshadri (Shashi) while addressing a preparatory meeting for the 110th birth anniversary of former Chief Minister Devaraj Urs. The meeting, held at a resort on the city outskirts, brought together leaders from 103 backward communities.
Sheshadri emphasized that only by uniting all backward class communities can the “Maha Okkoota” (Grand Federation) grow stronger. Recalling Urs’s enduring contributions to pro-people initiatives despite personal hardships in his later years, he said organizations built with patience could flourish like a great tree. He urged leaders to work beyond party lines to ensure political influence and social upliftment.
Highlighting the ongoing caste census, Sheshadri noted that it aims to ensure government benefits reach every community. He also pointed out that while dominant groups continue to demand reservations, backward classes must overcome challenges and advance collectively. He called for meaningful celebrations of Urs’s legacy on September 19.
District President of Maha Okkoota, Raid Nagraj, announced plans for a grand celebration, including tableaux representing the culture of various backward communities. A rally from Kempegowda Circle on Magadi Road will see Kumbara women carrying pots, with over 25,000 participants expected to underscore community solidarity.
The meeting was attended by prominent leaders, including Dr. Shivakumar Chowdashetti, National President of Kumbara Mahasabha, District Women’s President Shashikala Chowdashetti, General Secretary Narayan, Congress District President Gangadhar, JDS Spokesperson B. Umesh, BJP leader Suresh, TAPCMS President Doddi Suresh, and several other community representatives.
