Joint Security Talks
Suva
India and Fiji on Monday held discussions to deepen cooperation in maritime security, capacity development, and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) during the visit of INS Kadmatt to Suva. The Indian Navy’s anti-submarine warfare corvette arrived at the Port of Suva for a three-day goodwill mission, marking a step forward in bilateral defence ties.
Commander Kutuhal Limaye, Commanding Officer of INS Kadmatt, met Fiji’s Permanent Secretary for Defence and Veteran Affairs, Mason Smith, accompanied by India’s Defence Adviser to Fiji, Captain Rohit Raymond Kattoju. Talks focused on expanding collaboration in the maritime domain and improving disaster response preparedness.
The ship hosted an ‘Open Day’ in Suva, welcoming locals and officials who interacted with the crew and explored the vessel, strengthening people-to-people ties between India and Fiji.
INS Kadmatt arrived in Fiji after a successful three-day port call in Indonesia’s Surabaya, where professional and cultural exchanges enhanced trust and interoperability with the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL). The crew engaged in joint yoga sessions, friendly volleyball matches, and professional interactions, highlighting camaraderie and mutual respect.
As part of community outreach, Indian diaspora members in Indonesia also visited the ship, furthering cultural connections. Courtesy calls with senior Indonesian naval leaders underlined a shared vision for regional maritime stability.
The Ministry of Defence noted that INS Kadmatt’s regional visits reaffirm India’s role as a trusted security partner and reflected its commitment to safe and stable seas under the vision of “Partnership Across Sea.”
