Bengaluru homes face garbage compliance notices

The Bangalore Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML) has issued a directive for households to hand over their garbage to collection autos, amid growing concerns about improper waste disposal in the city. The move comes after authorities observed that many residents were neglecting to provide waste to garbage collection vehicles, leading to sanitation issues and accumulation of debris across neighborhoods.

As part of the new system, garbage autos will now begin door-to-door collection at 5:30 am, an hour earlier than the previous 6:30 am schedule. Residents are expected to cooperate and hand over household waste promptly to ensure smooth citywide waste management.

BSWML officials warned that households failing to comply will receive formal notices. The notice system aims to enforce accountability and encourage residents to participate actively in maintaining city hygiene.

In addition to regular household waste, construction debris has been a growing problem, with building materials often dumped indiscriminately. To address this, BSWML has decided to manage construction debris disposal directly. However, the cost of removal will be borne by the respective building owners. Authorities emphasized that this measure is intended to curb unauthorized dumping and prevent environmental hazards. City officials called on residents to support these initiatives, stating that efficient waste management requires collective responsibility. Compliance with the updated garbage collection schedule and proper disposal practices will help Bengaluru maintain cleanliness, reduce health risks, and promote a more sustainable urban environment.
