Farah Khan says ‘Gerua’ shoot cost ₹7 crore

Filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan has revealed that the popular romantic number Gerua from the 2015 film Dilwale, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, cost an astonishing ₹7 crore to shoot in Iceland. This makes it one of the most expensive songs ever filmed in Bollywood.

In her recent vlog from Delhi, Farah shared the story while meeting entrepreneur Ashneer Grover and his wife Madhuri. The couple had recently returned from a trip to Iceland, where Madhuri mentioned wanting a Bollywood song for their travel memories. Farah instantly recalled Gerua, pointing out that it remains the only major Hindi song filmed in the scenic country.

She explained how challenging the shoot was, as the extreme cold made it tough for the actors to even move naturally. Calling Iceland the most expensive place, Farah revealed that the high location charges and the need for a limited crew pushed the cost of filming the single song to a whopping ₹7 crore.

While Dilwale received mixed reviews upon release, Gerua stood out for its stunning visuals, soulful music, and the timeless pairing of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. The song not only became a chartbuster but also etched itself as one of Bollywood’s most memorable romantic tracks, proving that the massive investment paid off in creating an iconic cinematic moment.
