National Forest Martyrs’ Day was observed on Thursday at Solalappana Dinne’s Saalu Marada Thimmakka Tree Park to honour the brave forest personnel who sacrificed their lives protecting Karnataka’s forests and wildlife. The event was attended by Deputy Commissioner Dr PS Ravindra, Kushal Choukse, District Superintendent of Police HC Girish, Deputy Conservator of Forests Geetha, and other officers and staff of the Social Forest Division and Forest Department.

The ceremony included a march-past by the Forest Department team and the District Police Band, paying homage to the martyrs. Tributes were further marked by three rounds of ceremonial firing in the air, followed by a two-minute silence to pray for the departed souls. Guests and officers offered bouquets at the martyrs’ memorial as a mark of respect.

HC Girish highlighted the significance of National Forest Martyrs’ Day, reading out the names of all 62 forest personnel who lost their lives in Karnataka while safeguarding forests. Deputy Commissioner Dr PS Ravindra underscored the importance of forests in maintaining ecological balance and lauded the martyrs as exemplary role models whose dedication inspires all to contribute to environmental protection.
