Karnataka Police Book BJP MLC CT Ravi for Hate Speech Against Muslims

Booked under provisions of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for promoting enmity, disturbing communal harmony

Maddur

Karnataka police have filed a case against BJP MLC and former minister C.T. Ravi for allegedly delivering a hate speech targeting Muslims during a Ganesha Visarjan rally in Maddur. The rally, organised by Hindutva groups on Wednesday, September 10, was reportedly in retaliation to the stone-pelting incident during the Ganesh immersion procession in the town earlier this week.

Maddur police registered the case suo motu under Section 196(1)(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to promoting enmity between groups on religious grounds. The FIR was filed based on a complaint by Police Sub-Inspector Manjunath.

According to the FIR, Ravi, in his speech, referred to Muslims as “outsiders” and issued provocative threats. He reportedly said, “When they are just 5%, they started rebelling. What will happen if they become 50%? Our children and grandchildren won’t be able to live.” He further warned, “We will break your thighs and take your head off.”

The BJP leader also accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of indulging in appeasement politics and dividing Hindus “for the sake of votes.”

Police said the statements were intended to incite hatred between communities and disrupt peace in the region.

Ravi, known for his controversial remarks in the past, has not yet responded to the case. Authorities said investigations are underway, and further action will follow based on evidence gathered.
