Internal Reservation Classification Unacceptable, Says MP Govind Karjol

“The current internal reservation classification ignores Supreme Court guidelines and scientific reports, making it impossible to accept,” Karajol said.

Union Minister of State Govind Karjol on Thursday criticised the Karnataka government’s internal reservation classification, calling it unacceptable and in violation of Supreme Court guidelines. Speaking at a press conference in Munirabad ahead of a brainstorming session on next steps for internal reservation, he said the government has failed to follow population-based norms as per the Nagamohan Das report, the Madhuswamy Commission recommendations, or the apex court’s directives.

Karajol clarified that the objection is not against any community but stems from the government’s failure to implement Supreme Court guidelines on identifying backward classes. “The Nagamohan Das Commission submitted a very scientific report, but the state government divided nomads into just three categories, doing great injustice. This is completely against the Supreme Court order,” he added.

He noted that BJP governments since 2011 supported internal reservation, while the current Congress government under Siddaramaiah has allegedly misled the public.

Former Union Minister A. Narayanaswamy urged educated members of the Madiga community to assist students passing SSLC in pursuing higher education. Present were former MLA Basavaraj Dadesuguru, leader Hanumanthappa Bellary, and retired IAS officers Lakshminarayanaswamy and Anil Kumar.

Karajol called on the government to take remedial action to rectify loopholes, emphasising that adherence to Supreme Court guidelines is essential for fairness and justice to backward communities.

Narayanaswamy also warned against the inclusion of “Christian” alongside Hindu castes in the upcoming caste census, scheduled from September 22, calling it a political tactic to appease Sonia Gandhi.
