CM Siddaramaiah directs cancellation of ineligible BPL cards, ensuring no disruption for eligible families.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has instructed officials to take stringent measures to cancel ineligible Below Poverty Line (BPL) cards while ensuring that eligible families face no inconvenience. The directive was issued during a progress review meeting of the Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Department held at the Chief Minister’s office in Krishnadevaraya Bhavan on Wednesday.
Siddaramaiah emphasized that any eligible household that has not yet received a BPL card must be promptly provided with one. He stated that out of the BPL ration cardholders already identified as ineligible, 3,65,614 ration cards have been cancelled, and appropriate category adjustments have been made.
The CM further instructed officials to submit proposals under the Anna Bhagya scheme to provide kits containing rice along with nutritious grains and essential food items. Priority must be given to establishing new fair price shops for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes communities.
To enhance transparency and accountability, he directed that GPS trackers be installed on vehicles transporting food grains and CCTV cameras in all state warehouses. Siddaramaiah also called for timely recruitment to fill vacant positions in the Food and Civil Supplies Corporation.
In addition, the government is procuring 29,000 metric tonnes of minor millets for the first time. He instructed that, under the Minimum Support Price scheme, procurement of food grains should be conducted in collaboration with Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies and self-help groups.
The meeting was attended by Food Minister K.H. Muniyappa and other departmental officials, who were briefed on measures to streamline food distribution and ensure BPL entitlements reach the deserving beneficiaries.
