Vivek Agnihotri’s The Bengal Files and Tiger Shroff’s Baaghi 4, both released on September 5, are facing a tough run at the box office. After the crucial Monday test on September 8, the numbers were far from encouraging.
According to Sacnilk, The Bengal Files earned only ₹1.10 crore on Monday, taking its total to ₹7.85 crore. The film had opened with ₹1.75 crore on its first day. Meanwhile, Baaghi 4, which managed a decent Sunday, dropped sharply on Monday with a collection of ₹4.25 crore, bringing its overall total to ₹35.50 crore. In comparison, The Conjuring: Last Rites, which released last Friday, is currently performing better than both Hindi films.
The Bengal Files marks the third film in Agnihotri’s Files trilogy, after The Tashkent Files (2019) and The Kashmir Files (2022). Featuring Mithun Chakraborty, Saswata Chatterjee, Anupam Kher, Priyanshu Chatterjee, and Darshan Kumar, the film attempts to highlight a lesser-known chapter of Indian history. However, critics feel the storytelling lacks depth, with loud performances and overdone visuals.
On the other hand, Baaghi 4, part of the popular action franchise that once cemented Tiger Shroff’s reputation as an action star, has failed to recreate the earlier magic. While Shroff delivers his trademark stunts with conviction, reviews suggest that the weak writing and predictable sequences make the film less engaging.
With both films underperforming, the pressure is now on word of mouth to turn things around in the coming weeks.
