Ujjain
A tragic accident occurred when a car carrying three police personnel from Unhel Police Station skidded off a bridge into the swollen Kshipra River in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain district. The incident, which took place around 9 p.m., was triggered by heavy rains in the region.
Unhel Police Station House Officer Ashok Sharma, Sub-Inspector Madan Lal, and Constable Aarti Pal were en route to investigate a missing woman case when their vehicle lost control and fell into the river near the Jiawaji Ganj area. The bridge reportedly lacked railings, worsening the accident’s severity.
The body of Ashok Sharma was recovered from the river, approximately eight kilometers from Ujjain city, while search operations continue for SI Madan Lal and Constable Aarti Pal. The search, which was temporarily halted at 2:30 a.m. due to darkness, resumed at 5:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Rescue teams comprising the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and Home Guards have been deployed, utilizing boats, drones, and divers to locate the missing personnel. Authorities confirmed that river currents and adverse weather conditions have complicated the rescue operation.
City Superintendent of Police Pushpa Prajapati assured that all necessary measures are being taken to find the missing officers and extended condolences to the bereaved family. The incident has highlighted the risks faced by police personnel during emergency duties and raised concerns about infrastructure safety in flood-prone areas.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident is ongoing, with officials examining weather reports, vehicle condition, and bridge safety measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
