Bengaluru to see upgraded roads, smarter traffic, and better commuter connectivity
The Karnataka Congress government has unveiled an ambitious plan to transform Bengaluru’s road infrastructure, aiming to make the city a model for smart, future-ready urban mobility. Announcing the initiative on Sunday, officials highlighted a multi-pronged approach that includes the development of 70-meter-wide arterial roads, expansion of ring roads and expressways, and integration with the metro network to ensure seamless connectivity.
The project, facilitated through the Bengaluru Global Business and Infrastructure Transformation (GBIT) framework, seeks to drastically reduce congestion and enhance traffic flow across the city. By widening key roads and improving connectivity between residential, commercial, and industrial hubs, the government aims to provide stress-free travel for commuters, while also accommodating the growing population and vehicle density.
Officials emphasized that the plan goes beyond mere road construction, focusing on sustainable urban development and smart city principles. Enhanced traffic management systems, dedicated pedestrian pathways, and advanced signalization are among the measures being implemented to ensure safety and efficiency. The integration with metro expansion and expressway networks is designed to encourage public transport usage, further reducing the burden on city roads. “This initiative represents a major step toward reimagining Bengaluru as a global model for urban mobility,” said a senior government official. “Our goal is to provide residents with safe, efficient, and convenient travel options, while supporting economic growth and sustainable city development.”
The government plans to roll out the project in phases, with priority given to high-traffic corridors and areas facing chronic congestion. Citizens can expect improved road infrastructure, reduced travel times, and a more connected, future-ready Bengaluru in the coming years.
