Indian selectors appear to move past Karun Nair

New Delhi

Former India batter Aakash Chopra believes that Karun Nair may no longer be in the plans of the selectors. Nair was not picked for the India ‘A’ team for the multi-day games against Australia ‘A’. Chopra said it seems the selectors have decided to look past him.

Karun Nair returned to the Test team after eight years during the England series, which ended in a 2-2 draw. However, he scored just 205 runs in four matches with an average of 25.62. Though he got some starts, he could not turn them into big scores. His only fifty came in the fifth Test at The Oval.

Chopra noted that while Nair’s performance was average, it was not good enough to keep him firmly in the team. He was tried in different batting positions but did not make a strong impact. Chopra expected Nair to get a chance during the West Indies tour but now doubts if he will play for India again.

Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer will captain the India ‘A’ team and may soon return to the main Test side, as the selectors open the door for him in upcoming matches against West Indies and South Africa.
