Puratchi Tamilagam Party leader Airport D Moorthy on Saturday alleged that he was attacked by Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) cadre following his remarks on party founder Thol. Thirumavalavan. The incident reportedly occurred outside the office of the Director General of Police (DGP) in Chennai.
Speaking to ANI, Moorthy claimed that the assault took place with the support of the police. “Some VCK goons attacked me over my comments on their leader. I did not make any personal remarks. Police are not taking action, and this shows the state and police department are backing them,” he said.
A viral video shows four individuals attacking Moorthy, with one man hurling slippers and another repeatedly slapping him. A policeman is seen trying to stop the attackers, while an associate of Moorthy attempted to shield him. The attackers fled shortly after the assault.
Moorthy criticized the police for their inaction despite the attack happening right in front of the DGP office. “Police should be ashamed. This attack happened with their knowledge,” he alleged.
The incident has sparked debate over political violence and law enforcement’s response in Tamil Nadu. While VCK leaders have not issued a statement so far, the visuals of the attack have spread widely on social media, drawing sharp reactions from political circles.
