Bus Services Resume from Renovated Suburban Terminal

Hubballi
The Suburban Central (Old) Bus Stand in Hubballi, which had been closed for four and a half months due to ongoing flyover construction, reopened for service on Wednesday. Alongside, the road connecting Channamma Circle to Basava Vana, which had remained closed during this period, was also made accessible to the public.

To speed up the flyover work, the stretch in front of the bus stand and the road from Channamma Circle to Old Court had been closed on April 20. With the completion of the critical work in this section, the district administration has now allowed partial reopening of both the bus stand and the adjoining road.

During the closure, the bus terminal premises were left unused, resulting in garbage, overgrown grass, and dust-covered seats. On Tuesday, transport officials, along with workers, undertook a major cleaning drive to restore the station.

City Divisional Transport Officer Siddheshwar explained that the newly built station had been shut within three months of opening, causing inconvenience to passengers. Now, with all preparations in place, bus services on nearly 3,000 routes across the city will operate from the terminal.

National Highways Public Works Department Engineer Satish Naganur added that the reopened road will be functional only between Channamma Circle and Hubballi Opticals. The pothole-ridden stretch has been temporarily filled with gravel and cement, and water spraying will be carried out to control dust. Barricades have also been erected around the ongoing work site.

He further mentioned that for smoother bus movement, the shed next to the terminal’s left entrance needs to be cleared. Since it belongs to a private party, a final decision will be taken after inspection by the corporation officials.
