Malayalam cinema has taken a bold step into the superhero space with Lokah: Chapter 1 Chandra. The film tells the tale of a young woman who gains mystical powers while battling her personal challenges. It has opened to a fantastic response, collecting a massive ₹31.05 crore worldwide in just five days.
On its opening day, the film earned ₹2.7 crore, entirely from the Malayalam version. Day 2 brought in ₹4 crore, with ₹3.65 crore from Malayalam and ₹0.35 crore from Tamil, showing a strong 48% rise. Collections doubled on Day 3, reaching ₹7.6 crore across Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu. The momentum continued on Day 4, with Sunday business hitting ₹10.1 crore, led by ₹7.4 crore from Malayalam. Early numbers for Day 5 added another ₹6.65 crore, taking the total to ₹31.05 crore.
Directed as the first film in the Wayfarer Cinematic Universe (WCU), Lokah: Chapter 1 Chandra uniquely combines elements of Indian folklore, science fiction, and horror. The star-studded cast includes Kalyani Priyadarshan, Naslen, Sandy, Arun Kurian, Chandu Salimkumar, Nishanth Sagar, Raghunath Paleri, Vijayaraghavan, Nithya Shri, and Sarath Sabha.
As the movie enjoys a strong theatrical run, fans are also curious about its digital release. Though an official announcement is pending, reports suggest that the film will stream on Netflix, following the path of producer Dulquer Salmaan’s earlier projects like Kurup and Maniyarayile Ashokan.
