Japanese voice actor Takahiro Sakurai, who voices Giyu Tomioka in Demon Slayer, recently spoke about his admiration for Indian superstar Rajinikanth. In an interview with Hindustan Times, Sakurai admitted that dubbing for Rajinikanth would be nearly impossible for him, as the actor’s strong screen presence and deep voice are unmatched. He added that Rajinikanth’s iconic dialogue delivery carries a power that even seasoned voice actors would struggle to recreate.
Sakurai recalled how Rajinikanth’s film Muthu made a huge cultural impact in Japan when it released in 1998, becoming the country’s highest-grossing Indian film at the time. The movie introduced Japanese audiences to the larger-than-life style of Indian cinema and created a dedicated fan following that continues even today. For years, Muthu remained the benchmark for Indian films in Japan until S.S. Rajamouli’s RRR broke records.
Praising Rajamouli, Sakurai also highlighted the influence of RRR and Baahubali, noting that the director’s grand storytelling proves how cinema can transcend boundaries. He emphasized that Indian films have the power to connect people globally through myth, action, and emotion.
Meanwhile, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 is set for its India release on September 12, following its July 18 premiere in Japan. With the anime franchise gaining strong popularity in India, the upcoming film is highly anticipated by fans. Rajinikanth, meanwhile, was last seen in Coolie, which grossed over ₹280 crore domestically.
