Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday visited flood-affected areas of Jammu city, including the damaged Tawi Bridge and Bikram Chowk, to assess the extent of damage. He was joined by J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma, and senior officials during his on-the-spot review.

The Tawi Bridge suffered heavy structural damage in recent floods, while nearby areas such as Bikram Chowk also reported severe impact. Shah interacted with officials and reviewed ongoing relief and restoration measures. Later, he was scheduled to conduct an aerial survey of Kishtwar district and the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine route, both badly affected by a cloudburst and landslides last month.

Amit Shah arrived in Jammu on Sunday evening and was received at the airport by senior leaders and top officials. Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, BSF Director General Daljit Singh Chaudhary, and representatives of NHAI, IMD, and security agencies are also present in the region.

The Home Minister announced inter-ministerial central teams (IMCTs) to assess flood damage in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Uttarakhand. These teams will evaluate relief efforts carried out by state and union territory governments.

The Ministry of Home Affairs said the Centre has deployed NDRF units, Army personnel, and Air Force helicopters to assist in rescue operations and restoration of essential services. Shah will also review damage to border fencing and posts along the International Border with Pakistan.

The MHA added that the Central government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is committed to supporting affected states and mitigating hardships faced by citizens. Shah is also expected to meet families impacted by the floods.
