Jyotika’s Bold Comment on Women in Films Sparks Debate

Jyotika’s recent comments at a Hindi film promotion have sparked a heated debate online, especially among Tamil cinema fans. While promoting Shaitaan, the actress remarked that women receive less importance in South Indian films compared to Bollywood, adding that stars like Mammootty and Ajay Devgn give women more prominence. Her statement was widely interpreted as a dig at Kollywood and other southern industries.

The remark quickly went viral, drawing strong reactions. Many Tamil fans highlighted that Jyotika had been the face of several hit films such as Chandramukhi, Mozhi, Kaakha Kaakha, and Vaali, where she enjoyed central roles and poster presence. Some questioned why she would undermine the very industry that gave her fame, calling her comparison unfair. Others argued that while it is natural for actors to seek new opportunities, discrediting her roots was unnecessary.

A few voices defended Jyotika, saying her remarks reflected a broader truth about gender imbalance in cinema. However, the majority felt disappointed that an actress celebrated as a leading star in Tamil films chose to make such statements just as she is entering Bollywood.

Jyotika, who moved to Mumbai with her husband Suriya and their children in 2023, has been focusing on Hindi projects since her last Tamil film Udan Pirappe (2021). She has appeared in Srikanth, Shaitaan, and will soon be seen in Dabba Cartel. With more Hindi films lined up, Jyotika seems determined to continue her Bollywood journey—though this controversy has sparked questions about her relationship with Tamil cinema.
