Essar Foundation has announced its support for Team India as they prepare to compete at the World Youth Scrabble Championship (WYSC) 2025, scheduled to be held from August 30 to September 1 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The prestigious annual event brings together more than 200 young players from 18 countries, making it one of the most competitive and respected platforms in the global mind sport arena.

This collaboration with the Scrabble Association of India and Wordaholix underscores Essar Foundation’s belief in promoting both physical and intellectual sports as avenues for personal growth, social inclusion, and national pride.

Leading the 12-member Indian contingent this year is 14-year-old prodigy Madhav Gopal Kamath, ranked among the world’s top 10 youth Scrabble players by the World English Scrabble Players Association (WESPA). Kamath is also the first youth player from India to achieve this global ranking. The team will be managed by Neeta Bhatia, partner at Wordaholix and a member of the World Youth Scrabble Committee.

“Sport has the power to inspire, educate, and transform,” said a spokesperson for Essar Foundation. “Our support for Team India at WYSC 2025 reflects our commitment to nurturing emerging talent, especially in disciplines that deserve greater recognition. We are proud to stand behind India’s young champions as they showcase their skills on the world stage.” Essar Foundation has consistently leveraged sports as a catalyst for inclusion and empowerment. From empowering differently-abled cricketers to nurturing promising young talents like race walker Priya Gupta and skater Durga Gunjal, the Foundation continues to champion opportunities for growth across diverse disciplines.
