More than 59,000 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) owned by Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe entrepreneurs have registered on the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) platform, generating over ₹2,310 crore in order value so far this fiscal, the government informed Parliament on Thursday.
Minister of State for MSMEs Shobha Karandlaje said 59,390 SC/ST-run MSMEs have onboarded GeM till August 15. In addition, 24,970 such units have registered on the MSME Global Mart platform, while 304 have joined the MSME TEAM portal.
These enterprises have shown steady growth in online sales. Revenue from SC/ST MSMEs on e-commerce platforms rose from ₹2,689 crore in FY23 to ₹4,287 crore in FY24 and further to a record ₹5,134 crore in FY25.
To support such businesses, the government is implementing the National SC/ST Hub (NSSH) Scheme, which reimburses 80 percent of the annual subscription fee—up to ₹25,000—for government-backed e-commerce portals.
Karandlaje highlighted several initiatives to promote digital empowerment. These include the GeM platform for government procurement, the MSME TEAM initiative that connects enterprises to the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), and the Procurement and Marketing Support (PMS) Scheme offering financial aid for e-commerce sales.
She also noted the role of MSME Global Mart, a B2B portal developed by the National Small Industries Corporation, which provides access to international trade leads and tenders. Similarly, ekhadiindia.com, run by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission, supports B2C sales with global reach and interactive features for rural products.
The government believes such digital measures will expand opportunities for SC/ST entrepreneurs and strengthen their participation in India’s growing online economy.
