Tejasvi Surya endorses Nagara auto app

App introduces illuminated markers on autos, ensuring easy night visibility while promoting transparency and affordable travel.

BJP MP from Bengaluru South, Tejasvi Surya, has publicly endorsed Nagara Auto, a city-based mobile application that connects commuters with autos and taxis charging strictly by government-approved meter fares. The initiative, according to Surya, seeks to revive fair pricing practices in the city’s auto-rickshaw services, where many drivers have long been accused of overcharging passengers.

Taking to social media platform X, Surya wrote, “Remember the good old days when Bengaluru autos ran by the meter? @NagaraAuto is bringing that back. With their app, you can hail an auto that charges only the meter fare — no hidden costs, no commission. The fare on the meter is what you pay directly to the driver.”

Surya highlighted a unique feature of the Nagara fleet: each auto carries a distinct illuminated marker on top, making them easily identifiable at night. He also commended the entrepreneurs behind the project, Niranjanaradhya N and Shivanna D, describing it as a “wonderful initiative by youngsters” that significantly improves first- and last-mile connectivity to metro stations.

Nagara Auto, launched in June 2024 and relaunched in June 2025, offers competitive fares. Auto rides begin at ₹30 for the first two kilometers, followed by ₹15 per kilometer thereafter. Taxis are priced between ₹100 and ₹130 for the first four kilometers, with subsequent charges ranging from ₹24 to ₹32 per kilometer, depending on the vehicle type. A waiting charge of ₹1 per minute applies after the initial five minutes. The app directly links commuters with government-approved autos and taxis, promising transparency, accountability, and affordability.
