What appeared to be a legitimate farm produce trade in Bengaluru turned out to be a front for a thriving drug network, police revealed after a major bust.
In a major crackdown on narcotics trade, the Sampigehalli police arrested a BBM student for allegedly selling drugs under the guise of running a vegetable business. The accused, identified as Wasim Akram from Hassan, had been frequently traveling to Bengaluru claiming to sell vegetables. However, investigations revealed that he was using the cover to peddle narcotics.
Police said Wasim came into contact with a man named Firoz, from whom he sourced MDMA. He allegedly sold these drugs to college students and employees working in the city’s IT-BT sectors. Wasim was recently caught red-handed while selling ganja to students, leading to his arrest. Officers later confirmed that he had studied BBM. During the operation, police seized 30 grams of MDMA from his possession.
In a separate operation, Yelahanka police arrested three individuals for peddling 117 grams of MDMA. Along with the drugs, police recovered three mobile phones and a car valued at ₹15 lakh. Preliminary investigations suggest the accused had been procuring MDMA from Kerala at cheaper rates and distributing it among students in Yelahanka and nearby areas.
Officials stated that the network targeted young people, particularly college students, luring them with easy availability and lower prices. Authorities have intensified efforts to track the wider network involved in the supply chain and warned that stringent action will be taken against those promoting the drug menace in Bengaluru. The arrests highlight growing concerns over narcotics being pushed into educational and IT hubs, prompting police to strengthen surveillance and enforcement drives.
