Tamil cinema icons Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan may soon reunite on the big screen after 46 years. Reports suggest that the two legends are in talks to play ageing gangsters in director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s next film. The news has stirred huge excitement among fans, who have been waiting for decades to see them together again.
The project, initially planned before the Covid-19 pandemic, was put on hold due to delays. With discussions now back on track, the film is expected to go on floors soon. Produced under Kamal Haasan’s banner, Raaj Kamal Films International (RKFI), the official announcement is awaited.
If this collaboration moves ahead, Lokesh Kanagaraj’s other commitments, including Kaithi 2 with Karthi and a possible project with Aamir Khan, are likely to be postponed. The director has built a reputation for creating high-energy action dramas, and fans are eager to see how he brings together two of Indian cinema’s biggest stars.
Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan have a rich history of working together in Tamil films during the 1970s. Their last collaboration was Alauddinum Albhuta Vilakkum in 1979. Before that, they appeared in several classics like Apoorva Raagangal, Moondru Mudichu, Avargal, Pathinaaru Vayathinile, and Ninaithaale Inikkum.
Although they later carved out individual careers as superstars, both have maintained mutual respect and friendship over the years. A reunion on screen would not just be nostalgic but also a landmark moment for Tamil cinema.
