Creating awareness on eco-friendly celebrations will be the focus this Ganesh Chaturthi, said Gadag DC CN Sridhar.
Deputy Commissioner CN Sridhar emphasized that creating awareness about environmental protection should be the top priority during this year’s Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. Presiding over a meeting of officials on Tuesday, he directed various departments, police, the municipal corporation, and local bodies to strictly adhere to government guidelines.
Sridhar announced a complete ban on the sale and use of Plaster of Paris (PoP) idols in Gadag, warning of legal action against violators. He urged officials to promote eco-friendly idols made of clay or natural materials and assured support to artists in this effort. Temporary immersion pits will be set up across the district to prevent idol immersion in rivers, canals, and ditches, safeguarding aquatic life.
He stressed that celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi in an eco-friendly manner would not only protect nature but also send a positive message to the next generation. “Worshipping God should go hand in hand with protecting the environment. Together, let us set an example of an eco-friendly festival,” he said.
