The Basava Sagar (Narayanpur) reservoir in Lingasugur taluk of district is nearing full capacity, with water storage reaching 31.59 TMC, about 94.84 percent of its maximum capacity of 33.313 TMC.
Heavy rainfall in the upper catchment area and inflow from the Almatti dam pushed the inflow into the reservoir to nearly 1.10 lakh cusecs. In response, authorities increased the outflow to 1.16 lakh cusecs through the Krishna River.
Of this, 1,000 cusecs is being released into the Narayanpur Right Bank Canal (NRBC) and 3,000 cusecs into the Narayanpur Left Bank Canal (NLBC). The rest is being discharged into the Krishna River through the reservoir’s 25 crest gates. Officials said the discharge will be regulated in line with the inflow.
Meanwhile, the district administration has issued an alert to residents of villages along the Krishna River, advising them to remain cautious.
