CM Declares He Will Stay in State Politics, Not Move to Centre

CM has dismissed speculation about moving to national politics, reaffirming his focus on governing the state.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday firmly stated that he has no intention of entering national politics and will continue to focus on state governance. His remarks came during a discussion in the Vidhana Soudha over the recent fertilizer shortage, which had sparked heated exchanges in the Assembly.

Leader of the Opposition R. Ashok had suggested Siddaramaiah consider joining the central government. In a lighthearted yet pointed response, the CM asked, “Do you not like that I am here? Were you hoping to send me away?” making it clear that he intends to remain active in Karnataka’s political sphere.

Siddaramaiah shared that he once aspired to enter Parliament, but two electoral defeats changed his outlook. “Earlier, I had a desire to go to the Lok Sabha. But my people have rejected me twice. I no longer wish to enter Parliament. Everyone may aspire to enter Parliament, and that’s fine,” he said.

He drew a line between ambition and overreach, remarking, “Having a desire is natural, but one should not be overambitious. I currently have no desire to go to the Centre.”

The CM’s comments were seen as a direct clarification amid speculation about a possible move to Delhi politics. By reaffirming his focus on state affairs, Siddaramaiah underscored his commitment to addressing Karnataka’s challenges, including pressing agricultural issues such as fertilizer shortages, while ensuring political stability within the state.
