A 21-year-old migrant worker from Odisha has been arrested in Bengaluru for allegedly attempting to rape and subsequently killing a woman. The victim, identified as Mahananda, was a resident of the Lakshmisagar area, and the accused, Krishnachand Seti, lived next door and worked as a security guard at a tech park. The incident occurred on Thursday when Mahananda did not go to work and stayed home. Later that night, when she left her house, Krishnachand noticed her movement, dragged her to his house, and attempted to rape her. Mahananda resisted and attempted to scream for help, prompting Krishnachand to cover her mouth with one hand and strangle her with the other. The victim died due to suffocation. Following the murder, the accused wrapped the body in a bedsheet and kept it in his house. He later dumped the body in front of her house around 5:30 am the next day. The accused initially acted shocked and mingled with the crowd that had gathered, but police suspicions arose when he couldn’t provide satisfactory answers during preliminary questioning. Under further interrogation, Krishnachand confessed to the crime. The victim and the accused were known to each other as neighbors. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community and highlights the ongoing concerns about the safety of women in the city.
