An attempted theft of valuable sandalwood from the BWSSB quarters in Rajajinagar 1st N Block was thwarted by a group of stray dogs. The incident, which occurred on Monday night, was interrupted by the barking of the dogs, alerting the residents of the quarters to the scene. Two of the five thieves were apprehended by the residents and handed over to the police. The incident has prompted concerns among the residents about the constant presence of stray dogs in the area. The Assistant Executive Engineer of BWSSB, B Harish Naik, filed a complaint with the police regarding the incident. In response, the police have registered a case under the Karnataka Forest Act and other sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Additionally, the accused individuals have lodged a complaint alleging that they were assaulted by the public using wooden planks. The incident took place between 10:30 pm and 10:45 pm on Monday night at the BWSSB premises in Rajajinagar’s North West-1 subdivision. When the stray dogs began barking, both security guards and residents of the quarters quickly responded to the scene. A police patrol vehicle was also in close proximity to the area. While three of the thieves managed to escape, the two individuals who fell during their attempt were captured and handed over to the police. The arrested sandalwood thieves have been identified as Rasool (36) and Sheikh Nazir (35), residents of Mattighatta post in Chikkanayakanahalli, Tumkur. The incident highlights the role of stray dogs in helping prevent criminal activities and raise concerns among the local residents regarding security in the area.
