Beat The Plastic Campaign Organised In Coastal Districts

The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), in collaboration with NCC UDAAN Karnataka chapter, NCC, Bharat Scouts and Guides and industrial workers, is undertaking Beat the Plastic campaign across coastal Karnataka. The journey, Try the Karavali to spread awareness against plastic use started from Karwar on May 27 and reached Kaup of Udupi district.
Campaigns were held at Karwar, Gokarna, Kumta, Honnavar, Murdeshwar, Byndoor, Maravanthe, Kemmannu Hoode, Kaup and Panambur.
Addressing nearly 200 volunteers at Kaup Beach, Udupi environmental officer Raju said, Refuse, reduce, recycle plastic should not just become mere slogans, it should become the philosophy of our life.
NGOs like Pahare, Open Water Swimmers Foundation and industries like Adani Power Limited, Bright Flexi International Pvt supported the cause. Local authorities, including the state pollution control board, have supported the campaign, said KG Sunil, State Secretary of NCC UDAAN Karnataka Chapter.

In the last seven days, nearly 3,000 volunteers, including NCC cadets, coast guard, Navy officers, industrial workers, NGO members and the general public have collected 6.5 tonnes of waste. The awareness campaign will end on World Environment Day in Dakshina Kannada.

Mangaluru International Airport   staff carried out a beach clean-up drive at Tannirbhavi on the eve of World Environment Day. After taking a pledge to proactively reduce single-use plastic, the teams cleaned up Tannirbhavi and rid the beach of different types of plastic, especially spoons in an hour-long drive.
Nearly 40 bags of trash collected were handed over to the official solid waste management agency of Mangaluru City Corporation for effective disposal.
