From making a debut in Bollywood opposite starkid, Tiger Shroff, to bagging Shah Rukh Khan starrer Dilwale as her second project – Kriti Sanon has won some great film projects, which would rather be envious to new actors who don’t hail from the industry.
The Delhi girl made Mumbai her home with an aspiration to become and actress and has only felt welcomed in the industry ever since she arrived here. I felt welcomed, obviously, from my first film itself. I knew I was an outsider and didn’t know anyone as such but then I got my second film which was a Rohit Shetty directorial and starred SRK and Kajol. It’s like a dream for anyone.
She continues, There’s a happy realisation that okay people know about me, they feel like I have the potential and they want to give me an opportunity. So, I did feel welcomed in the beginning itself. Having said that, I was still struggling to find my place in the industry. I didn’t know my standing. I didn’t have an acting background, nor did I ever get formal training in it. I have learnt everything on the job.
What kept her going she says is her attitude and things begin to change further after she received some projects where she got to prove herself. She elaborates saying, I have always been ambitious. I am not easily satisfied and so that kept me going. With Bareilly Ki Barfi, people opened up to the actor in me. That’s exactly what I was craving for. I wanted people to notice me as an actor. It was very important for me. I was like this star and all… which is great, I knew I was this heroine… which is fine, but I wanted to be known as an actor.
She concludes saying, After Bareilly… it was Luka Chuppi that added on to my success, followed by Panipat. But a major jump came with Mimi. The latter had her playing the titular role and received a lot of appreciation and awards for her performance as a surrogate mother.
