A 39-year-old woman, Shalini, was allegedly hacked to death by her husband Isaac at their Koothanadi residence near Punalur on Monday morning. Shockingly, Isaac later went live on Facebook to admit the murder and make accusations against his wife before surrendering to police.
According to the FIR, the couple had ongoing marital issues. Around 6:30 a.m., Shalini was attacked near a pipeline behind the kitchen while preparing for her bath. She sustained deep injuries to her neck, chest, and back. Soon after, Isaac posted a two-minute live video claiming Shalini had disobeyed him, misused jewellery to purchase a vehicle, and was active in political meetings. He also alleged she wanted to leave the house after recently returning from her mother’s home.
Isaac then went to Punalur police station and confessed to the crime. Police teams subsequently reached the house and found Shalini dead. Her body was shifted to a hospital for postmortem.
The couple had two sons, and the complaint was lodged by their 19-year-old son. Isaac, a Gulf returnee, worked as a rubber tapper, while Shalini was employed as a helper at a local school. Police said Shalini had started living separately with Isaac’s mother due to regular assaults but had recently returned home.
A case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (murder) has been registered. Forensic teams are examining the crime scene, and mobile phones of both the victim and the accused have been seized. Authorities are continuing inquiries into the tragic incident.
