India eyes $15 billion seafood export target by 2030

India’s seafood export sector demonstrates resilience, supplying to 132 countries, supporting 30 million livelihoods, and aiming to double exports by 2030.

New Delhi
India has emerged as a global leader in seafood exports, currently supplying to 132 countries, and is now targeting to double its exports to $15 billion by 2030, according to a report by the Seafood Exporters Association of India (SEAI) on Saturday. The country exported 16,98,170 tonnes of seafood worth ₹62,408.45 crore ($7.45 billion) during 2024-25, compared to 17,81,602 tonnes worth ₹60,523.89 crore ($7.38 billion) in 2023-24, reflecting resilience despite global trade fluctuations.

The fisheries sector provides livelihood support to more than 30 million fishers and fish farmers, underscoring its significance to India’s economy. The report comes ahead of the 24th edition of the India International Seafood Show (IISS), Asia’s premier seafood trade fair, which will be held from September 25 to 28 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.

This year’s edition will also form part of World Food India 2025, the Government of India’s flagship global food innovation event, designed to celebrate India’s culinary heritage and foster international partnerships across the food value chain.

IISS showcases the tremendous growth of India’s seafood export sector. As we mark our golden jubilee, this event will help us strengthen our global position and expand into new markets, said SEAI President Pawan Kumar.

SEAI Secretary-General K.N. Raghavan emphasized the association’s motto, Sustainably Harvested, Humanely Sourced, as a reflection of its commitment to ethical sourcing and responsible aquaculture practices. He added that IISS-2025 will also focus on challenges such as skill development, sustainability, and innovation. The upcoming event will feature over 260 stalls, technical sessions, and roundtables with participants from more than 15 countries, including major markets such as the United States.
