Kittur Utsav to be held on Mysuru Dasara lines

Belagavi

The Karnataka government plans to organise the Kittur Utsav on the lines of Mysuru Dasara, with Public Works and Belagavi District In-charge Minister Satish Jarkiholi announcing a three-day celebration from October 23.

The government has proposed an allocation of Rs 5 crore for the festival, which commemorates the legacy of Kittur Rani Chennamma and her resistance against British rule. The event is expected to include cultural programmes and other activities highlighting the history and heritage of Kittur.

Minister Satish Jarkiholi said efforts would be made to give the festival a larger and more organised format. The plan is aimed at developing Kittur Utsav into a major cultural event while providing a platform for local artists and cultural groups.

The three-day festival will begin on October 23, with preparations expected to involve various government departments and local authorities. Officials are likely to finalise the programme schedule and other arrangements ahead of the celebrations.

The announcement comes as the government seeks to give greater prominence to Kittur’s historical importance. Kittur, associated with Rani Chennamma’s struggle against British rule, has a significant place in Karnataka’s history. The proposed format is expected to bring together cultural performances, public events and programmes centred on the region’s heritage.

The Rs 5-crore allocation will support arrangements for the three-day celebration. Further details about the programmes, venues and participating artists are expected to be announced as preparations progress.
