Manchester City star Erling Haaland set a new milestone by becoming the fastest player to score 50 goals in the UEFA Champions League. The Norwegian striker reached the half-century mark in just 49 matches during City’s 2-0 victory over Napoli at the Etihad Stadium.
The match remained goalless in the first half against the Italian champions. Shortly after the break, Haaland opened the scoring by flicking in a clever pass from Phil Foden. Later, Jeremy Doku sealed the win with a composed finish, ensuring City began their European campaign strongly.
Haaland’s achievement surpassed Ruud van Nistelrooy, who had previously reached 50 goals in 62 games. With an extraordinary scoring rate of more than one goal per match, Haaland’s record stands well ahead of other players in Europe’s elite competition. Of his 50 goals, 27 have been scored for City, 15 for Borussia Dortmund, and eight for Red Bull Salzburg.
Phil Foden praised his teammate’s incredible form, saying Haaland “seems to break every record going.” Speaking to TNT Sports, Foden highlighted the striker’s consistency and suggested no one may match his records if he continues at this pace.
City’s victory offered confidence as they began their pursuit of back-to-back Champions League titles. Foden also acknowledged Napoli’s strong defensive structure, noting how difficult they were to break down even after being reduced to 10 men. He praised City’s patience and control, describing the performance as “solid” and the result as the “perfect start” to their European journey.
