Over 2,500 athletes from 100+ nations will showcase talent and resilience at India’s para sport championship

Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya expressed excitement for the World Para Athletics Championships 2025, calling it a historic moment for India. The event, the biggest para athletics competition the country has ever hosted, will take place from September 27 to October 5 at New Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
More than 2,500 athletes from over 100 nations are expected to participate. Mandaviya, posting on X, urged fans to “witness the world’s finest para athletes in action.” The championship promises to be a celebration of talent, resilience, and the spirit of para sport on Indian soil.
The Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports have been central to preparations. They have provided advanced training facilities, mentoring, and financial support, ensuring India’s para athletes are fully prepared to compete at the highest level.
A new Mondo track and state-of-the-art throwing arena have been installed at the stadium. These globally recognized surfaces are designed to maximize performance, setting the stage for potential record-breaking moments and thrilling contests.
Adding to the excitement, the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) recently unveiled the official medals for the championship. The designs blend sporting spirit with Indian heritage. The medals feature motifs inspired by traditional Indian art, along with depictions of para-athletics icons such as a wheelchair racer and discus thrower. A lotus, India’s national flower, completes the design, symbolizing excellence and resilience.
India now stands ready to welcome the world and deliver a championship that will shine as both a sporting spectacle and a celebration of inclusivity.
