PhonePe outlines decade-long fin inclusion vision

New Delhi

PhonePe Founder and CEO Sameer Nigam outlined the company’s vision for the next decade of financial inclusion at the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2026, focusing on making digital financial services accessible to people across India.

Nigam said progress should be measured by whether people are included in the digital economy. He said PhonePe’s products were designed to reduce barriers and create a financial system flexible enough to serve users. He highlighted the company’s work with NPCI to address barriers linked to smartphones, bank accounts and borders.

Nigam pointed to UPI 123Pay as an important step for feature-phone users. The technology uses SMS, IVR, missed calls and voice-based services to enable digital payments without internet access. He said more than eight lakh enabled devices had been shipped with partner manufacturers. He highlighted UPI Circle, which allows account holders to delegate payments to dependents, and PhonePe’s expansion of UPI services for travellers in Singapore, the UAE, France and Nepal.

On savings and investments, Nigam outlined PhonePe’s “Sachetization Philosophy”, aimed at making financial products easier to adopt through small contributions. PhonePe Daily FD allows users to begin fixed deposits with Rs 100 a day, while gold, silver and mutual fund SIPs can start at Rs 10. He introduced CRISP for market information and discussed AI-based lending, which can complete loan disbursals in 2.5 minutes.

Nigam said He said the company’s goal was to use technology to make financial security, savings, credit and business growth more accessible to millions of Indians across the country.
