Following a horrific terrorist attack outside a Jerusalem synagogue in which a Palestinian gunman killed at least seven people, US President Joe Biden calls Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. President Biden also pledged support to Israel’s government and people in the wake of the incident when he spoke with Netanyahu on Friday. The incident occurred as tensions and violence between Israel and the Palestinians continued to rise. A day after nine Palestinians were killed during an Israeli Defense Forces operation in the West Bank city of Jenin, a shooting took occurred on Friday night in the northern section of East Jerusalem.
The President was adamant in the call that this was an assault on the developed world. The White House released a summary of the call and claimed that he offered all acceptable measures of support to the Government and People of Israel over the coming days. According to the White House, The President stressed the ironclad US commitment to Israel’s security and agreed that his team would continue in constant contact with their Israeli colleagues.
US Secretary of State Tony Blinken expressed his greatest condemnation of the heinous terrorist act that took place today in front of a synagogue in Jerusalem in a separate statement. We grieve the victims of the tragedy, and our hearts go out to the injured, notably the young. It is disgusting to think that individuals could be targeted as they leave a place of worship. Being attacked on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, he continued, is especially terrible.
